Without doubt, 2011 is a year of tablets in India. Along with the multinationals, several home-grown phone manufacturers will also introduce Android tablets in the country. To create a market for themselves, these Indian manufactures will target mid-range and entry- level segments.
Lava Mobile, which is expected to launch an Android tablet in September, is planning to keep the price range between INR 15,000 and INR 20,000. Similarly, Delhi based Zen Mobile will also release an Android tablet in April with price hovering around INR 15,000. Micromax, Spice, Fly and Olive are some other manufacturers, who are also mulling over to launch tablets. Olive has already released one tablet in the market and is working on the second one.
Indian companies have understood that they cannot compete with multinationals in the high-end segments, so they are targeting the budget conscious buyers, who really have no choice other than leaving the brand dreams behind.
Chinese company G’Five, which was recently in news, is also planning to launch two Android tablets in the country, these tablets will be available in April and would cost only around INR 10,000. With so many companies entering the tablet market, it will surely be a crowded place.
