Google starts 'experiment' to bring AOSP support to Sony Xperia S

One interesting bit of information popped up this morning about Xperia S. Google has started an experiment with this Sony flagship to bring AOSP (Android Open Source Project) support to this device. This is just an experiment right now, but it certainly is a step in right direction.

Google’s Jean-Baptiste Queru has pointed out that he is not sure how far this project will go, but they are trying and will see as it goes.

Previously, only Nexus devices and Xoom were getting AOSP support, but the situation seems to be changing now. We won’t get our hopes up right now, but will sure be keeping track of Xperia S’s experiments with AOSP.

Why did Google opt for Xperia S rather than several other devices in the market?

In Google’s words – It’s a powerful current GSM device, with an unlockable bootloader, from a manufacturer that has always been very friendly to AOSP.
