Along with the announcement of bringing Google Play seller support to India, Google has also revealed some great details about the Android ecosystem in India.
According to the company, Android device activations have gone up more than 400 per cent in the last one year. While, Google did not give an exact number, but it terms the Android users in India as “million,” which isn’t surprising given the number of Android devices being launched in the country every week and most them are affordable.
Google also stated that this influx of new Android users has driven huge increase in the app downloads from Google Play and in the last six months, Indian Android users have downloaded more apps that in the last three years combined.
This is really big and gives a great opportunity to home-grown app developers, who have just got the ability to publish paid apps, great apps and capitalise on it as there is such a huge market for them and it is getting bigger every day.
According to Google, thanks to this push in app downloads, India has become the fourth largest market worldwide in app downloads. We hope to see the share of paid app downloads also increasing in the coming weeks, as Android users in India will be able to buy paid apps in Indian rupees starting October 25.
