Every once a while some or the other news publication comes up with an exclusive report suggesting they know that Facebook is indeed building a phone.
Despite Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s earlier statement that Facebook is not making a phone and that a “phone just doesn’t make any sense,” UK website Pocket Lint is reporting that they have exclusively learnt that Facebook phone is in development.
Their “very reliable source” has told them that HTC is working on this FB phone, which is codenamed as HTC Opera UL. This source also added, “It is the Facebook phone, made for Facebook.”
This particular source also claims that apparently the phone has been delayed, but fails to give a time frame of when we can see this device in the market (in case it is real).
HTC Opera UL was recently spotted on a benchmarking website, which revealed some of its specs, but did not have anything to support the claims of this being the Facebook phone.
HTC Opera UL will reportedly feature a 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor, Adreno 305 GPU, a 1280x720p display and Android 4.1.1.
We are having a hard time believing this report about a Facebook phone being in existence because some similar rumours about a Facebook phone are just too old and if it was real, it would have appeared until now. And, also HTC is struggling with dwindling profits and would not like to be part of an experiment, which is unlikely to pay off similar to its earlier attempt at pseudo Facebook phones in the form of HTC ChaCha and Salsa.
