In the bid to make Gmail inbox clutter-free, Google is taking a new approach by integrating categories in the inbox as a part of latest revamp. Google wants to help you separate bulks mails from the main inbox to different categories that appear as tabs in your inbox.
By using the new categories in Gmail, you can automatically send all your Facebook and Google+ notifications and emails from other social networks to social category or retail order updates or shipping information to updates category and so on.
There are a total of five categories – primary, social, promotions, updates and forums. You can choose to use all the categories or select few of these or even none of them.
“We get a lot of different types of email: messages from friends, social notifications, deals and offers, confirmations and receipts, and more. All of these emails can compete for our attention and make it harder to focus on the things we need to get done. Sometimes it feels like our inboxes are controlling us, rather than the other way around,” Itamar Gilad, Product Manager, Gmail noted in a blog post.
“But it doesn’t have to be that way. Today, Gmail is getting a brand new inbox on desktop and mobile that puts you back in control using simple, easy organization,” Itamar added.
According to Google, the new inbox is rolling out gradually, and the web as well Android versions will go live sometime in the next few weeks.
