After launching its first Android-powered devices for the Indian market recently, HP now wants to bring its 7-inch tablet to the country. Ketan Patel, Director Consumer Product Category, HP PPS India reportedly told Tech2 at a launch event that HP will be releasing Slate 7 in the country soon.
“Slate 7 has been included in product roadmap of HP India,” he noted. There is no word on the pricing or exact release date at this moment but considering Slate 7 is a budget device, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it priced around INR 12-14K in the country.
To remind you, HP Slate 7 was originally announced for global markets in February this year. It features a 7-inch 1024x600p resolution display, 1.6GHz dual-core processor, and Android 4.1. The tablet also packs 8GB of storage, Beats Audio integration and 1GB of RAM.
The tablet will be facing a stiff competition from the likes of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 311, Asus Memo Pad, Acer Iconia B1 and several budget tablets from home-grown manufacturers.
It is important to note here that HP recently reduced the price of Slate 7 in the United States, where it was originally launched for $169.99. It would be interesting to see if HP brings Slate 7 to India at the reduced price. Considering the impending launch of new Nexus tablet and the recent introduction of Kindle Fire HD in the country, it would be a wise move for the company to price Slate 7 aggressively.
