HTC India head told media at an event in Kolkata that his company plans to launch sub-INR 10,000 smartphones in emerging markets like India.
“There is a business case for launching sub-Rs 10,000 handsets. This is targeting emerging markets like India, Indonesia and China,” said HTC country head Faisal Siddiqui.
Siddiqui did not reveal any details about these phones or when they can be expected. If the company really plans to increase its smartphone market share to 15 per cent in the Indian market, it better release these smartphones soon.
Sub-INR 10,000 smartphone segment is a huge market for any smartphone vendor and home-grown smartphone companies has increasingly tapped this segment to take to multi-national smartphone makers.
Siddiqui also revealed that that HTC was ramping up its distribution network and service support in India to strengthen its foothold.
