After normal consumers and geeks, tablet vendors have now decided to go for the largely untapped segment – children. In the recent few months, we have seen the giants like Samsung launch tablet for kids, and now even smaller players like HCL and Swipe Telecom are following suit.
HCL and Swipe Telecom have launched new Android tablets targeted to kids in the Indian market. Dubbed as HCL ME Champ and Swipe Junior, the tablets are now on sale in the country.
Talking about HCL Me Champ first, the tablet comes with a 7-inch WVGA display, Android 4.1, 1GHz processor, 2MP rear camera and 0.3MP front camera. The tablet comes pre-loaded with contents from subjects like Math, Science, Geography, History, Art and Language. It also packs a parental lock feature, which can be used to control the access to various apps, time of use and other features on the device.
In addition, the tablet comes with Wi-Fi connectivity and 3G support via USB dongle. It has been priced at INR 7,399.
Coming to Swipe Junior, the tablet also features a 7-inch display, Android 4.1, 2MP rear camera, 0.3M front camera and 1GHz processor. Other specs include 3000 mAh battery, Wi-Fi and 3G support via USB dongle.
Similar to the HCL tablet, there is a parental lock feature on Swipe Junior as well along with pre-loaded educational content and e-books. One interesting part of the tablet is its shock-proof design and use of food-grade quality material in the body, so even toddlers can play with it without concerns for health, claims Swipe Telecom.
The tablet will sell for INR 5,990.
