Mozilla partners with Kobo, Gigabyte to pre-load Firefox on Android devices

Kobo Arc tabletsMozilla has announced that it has teamed up with Kobo and Gigabyte to pre-load Firefox on their select Android devices. Firefox will be pre-installed on new Kobo Arc 7, Kobo Arc 7HD and Kobo Arc 10HD tablets and Gigabyte GSmart Simba SX1 smartphone.

“We are pleased to partner with Kobo and GIGABYTE to offer Firefox as a pre-installed Web browser on Kobo Arc tablets and the GSmart Simba SX1 smartphone.” said Karen Rudnitski, Senior Product Manager for Firefox for Android. “Firefox is dedicated to offering users the best and most personal mobile browsing experience and we are happy to be able to bring that experience directly to users, globally.”

While Kobo devices with bundled Firefox are already available in US and Canada, they will soon reach other markets. On the other hand Gigabyte GSmart Simba SX1 smartphone will be launched in Russia, Ukraine, EEU, Belarus and Taiwan from November, and rolled out globally from December 2013.
