NewsHunt launches e-books on its Android app

NewsHunt e-BooksNewsHunt has jumped in the e-books arena with the addition of a books section on its Android app recently. First spotted by MediaNama, the functionality seems to have been added a part of the latest app update, which was released on Friday.

The app is currently offering e-books in Hindi, Tamil, Marathi and Malayalam with select titles in English – mostly copyright free classics or books from Indian publishers.

While this is a brave attempt from Ver Se Innovation, the developer of NewsHunt, the catalogue leaves a lot of be desired. A big chunk of the catalogue consists of cheap suspense/ thriller novels, which you mostly find at railway station and bus-stand stalls or freely available classics. It seems the company hasn’t been able to secure deals with any of the big publishing houses.

To buy paid e-books, Indian consumers can pay using Airtel or Idea carrier billing option or credit/ debit cards. International users however have the option to pay via PayPal.

We tried reading a few e-books and found problems in Hindi or other regional language font rendering on our Nexus 5. English e-books were opening fine but the e-book reader needs a lot of work. (Update: NewsHunt has fixed the regional language font issue in its app)NewsHunt e-Books
