HTC America President Jason Mackenzie has told Engadget that the unlocked units of HTC One smartphone will be getting the newly announced Android 4.4 KitKat update within 30 days. He also noted that the developer edition will also be receiving the update around the same time. While Mackenzie was talking about US update plans, we can expect similar update timeline for other markets too.
If HTC is able to push the update within the promised time, it will probably be the fastest major Android update from the company so-far.
This is not all, Mackenzie has also stated that the carrier variants of HTC One in the United States will get the KitKat update within 90 days.
HTC will be keeping Sense 5.5 user-interface with Android 4.4, so if you were hoping to see Sense 6.0, which is rumoured to arrive with next HTC’s next flagship, on your HTC One, you are out of luck.
HTC One Mini and One Max will be next in line to get the update but HTC is yet to reveal a clear timeline of the update release for these phones. There is no word on the update roll-out to other HTC smartphones.
“Our priority will be updating the HTC One family. At this point, we’re still working to determine whether and/or when we’ll be updating other devices in our product portfolio,” a HTC spokesman told The Verge.
