Toshiba announces first Chromebook, to be available in Feb for $280

Toshiba ChromebookAs revealed by Google in September this year, Toshiba has announced its first Chromebook today at CES. Simply dubbed as Toshiba Chromebook, this Chrome OS device will go on sale beginning February 16 in the United States for $279.99. It will be released in Europe sometime in the first quarter, availability details for other regions are unclear at this moment.

According to a press release issued by the company, Toshiba Chromebook features a 13.-inch 1366x768p display, Intel Celeron processor based on Haswell Architecture, 16GB SSD and 2GB of RAM. It also packs HD webcam, two USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI out port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and SD card slot.

Like all other Chromebooks, the buyers of Toshiba Chromebook will also get free 100GB of Google Drive cloud storage.

“We see great potential in Chrome OS as it offers both consumers and educators a simple and easy-to-use computing experience. We believe that bringing a more versatile 13-inch model to market will help drive the entire category forward by giving customers an option that opens new doors for productivity, not only for consumers, but also students and educators,” said Carl Pinto, vice president of marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division.
