Four months after the official unveiling in China, Oppo has launched the R1 smartphone in the Indian market today. Priced at INR 26,990, the phone will be joining the company’s growing line-up of Android devices in the country.
Oppo R1 features 5-inch 720p HD display, Android 4.2, 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and 2410 mAH battery. On the imaging front, Oppo has included an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera on the smartphone.
I am not sure what folks at Oppo India are thinking when pricing devices like R1. Who will go for Oppo R1 instead of choosing Moto X, which is a critically acclaimed smartphone with tried and tested performance. It also baffles me that Oppo is releasing an older version of R1 in the country, when it has already announced the newer R1S in China, which comes with better specifications and newer Android version.
In related news, Oppo has reduced the price of its N1 smartphone from INR 39,999 to INR 37,990. The phone was released in the country in January this year.
