With Samsung making Tizen as the choice of platform for its smartwatch efforts, the fate of the company’s first smartwatch Galaxy Gear was uncertain but there is finally some good news of the owners of the smartwatch. It looks like Samsung is planning to update Galaxy Gear to Tizen.
According to a report in Tech Radar, Samsung will release a software update for Galaxy Gear, which will switch the platform in the smartwatch to Tizen. There is no word on the release date of this update right now but folks at SamMobile have got their hands on an early-build of Tizen for Galaxy Gear, which confirms that Samsung is indeed working on the update. They have also flashed this build on a Galaxy Gear unit. You can check out a video of this Tizen-powered Galaxy Gear unit later in the report.
According to SamMobile, Tizen upgrade brings a lot of new features to the Galaxy Gear like Sleep mode, Exercise mode, standalone music player, new controls app, UI customisation optionsas well as support for voice commands in the camera app. The update also reportedly improves battery life quite a bit.
So, if you own a Galaxy Gear, just hang on, the update will be heading your way soon enough.
