Finnish smartphone maker Jolla has unveiled its Jolla Phone in the Indian market. The phone is being released in partnership with e-retailer Snapdeal.com, where it can now be purchased for INR 16,499.
Running on the Jolla’s own Sailfish OS, the phone comes with support for Android applications, which can be installed on the phone via third-party app stores. Sailfish OS is based on Nokia’s old MeeGo OS, which was ditched by the company for Windows Phone operating system. The interface of the operating system is gesture driven and there are no navigation buttons to go around, something that will take some getting used to.
Jolla claims unlike other operating systems, its Sailfish OS doesn’t track the users and is very privacy oriented. The company also touts that it will compete with other smartphone makers on the basis of the user-experience on its smartphone rather than raw specs.
In terms of the specifications, the smartphone features a 4.5-inch qHD display, 1.4GHz Qualcomm dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 2100 mAh battery. The Jolla smartphone also packs 16GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, 8MP rear camera, and 2MP front shooter.
The phone has been released in White colour option.
