Google has announced that it is releasing an updated version of the Play Newsstand app for Android in Google Play with a new look. The updated version takes elements from Google’s Material Design.
“Today’s redesign brings a new magazine reading experience on your phone. In the past, print magazines have been hard to read on a small screen, zooming in and out to skim an article. But now you’ll see a list of articles from the magazine that you can toggle through and easily read with big images right on your phone. The new Play Newsstand app for Android pulls from Google’s material design with bigger images, more contextual headers and smoother transitions,” wrote Mussie Shore, Group Product Manager for Google Play Newsstand, in a blog post.
Apart from the design changes, Google has also added deeper topic cards to follow your favourite news topic or the stuff you are passionate about. In addition, the app update includes performance enhancements.
The new version of Google Play Newsstand app will roll out to all Android users over the next week.
To remind you, Play Newsstand offers news from multiple sources at one place. It not only allows the consumers to read content from free news outlets but also lets them subscribe to premium news magazines (available in limited countries).
