Micromax-backed Yu Televentures’ first smartphone Yureka is likely to leave a lot of consumers unsatisfied when it goes on sale for the first time at Amazon on January 13. According to a report in Press Trust of India (PTI), Yu is only putting 10,000 units of the phone on sale on the day, even though it has received over 3 lakh registrations from the consumers.
“We saw unprecedented response with over three lakh registrations. Registrations were to be open till 25th December. However, owing to the mega response they had to be closed a day earlier,” Micromax co-founder & Yu founder Rahul Sharma told PTI.
The company is promising that going ahead it will ramp the production of the smartphone, but given the consumer response, they are unlikely to have sufficient number of the units any time soon.
“We are working on ramping our capacities. Given the kind of enthusiasm that we have seen, we will increase the number of units put out for sale gradually,” Sharma added.
Originally unveiled last month, Yu Yureka smartphone has been priced at INR 8,999 and comes with some impressive specifications for the price-tag. The phone features a 5.5-inch 720p HD IPS display, Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 13MP rear camera, dual-SIM support and 5MP front shooter.
