Indian smartphone vendor Karbonn on Monday announced that it is entering the accessories market, from which, it was surprisingly absent like most other smartphone makers in the country. Accessories are considered lucrative as they have high margin and the likes of Apple make a lot of money on them.
To begin its journey in the accessory segment, Karbonn has introduced three power banks as well as a bunch of screen-guards. While the power banks are device agnostic, the screen protectors will only be released for Karbonn devices.
“The increasing mobile adoption in India has given an impetus to the demand for mobile accessories market which is burgeoning rapidly. Currently, the accessories market is dominated by grey market products which impact the functioning and efficiency of the device. The move towards expanding our product portfolio to include mobile accessories is aimed at offering the consumer the choice of technologically superior mobile auxiliaries which are affordable. We are highly optimistic about the growth of Karbonn’s accessories vertical and expect it to touch 100 crores by the end of FY 2015-2016,”said Shashin Devsare, Executive Director of Karbonn.
According to Karbonn, it will be releasing power banks in 5,000mAh, 7,000mAh and 10,000mAh battery capacities. The power banks are lightweight, sport matte finish and are fitted with intelligent IC for efficient load fluctuation management.
The 7,000mAh and 10,000mAh power banks also come with dual charging ports for charging more than one mobile device and LED indicators for capacity status. The 10,000mAh power bank also packs an LED torch for illumination and doubles up as a TF card reader.
The Karbonn Power Banks will retail starting INR 999 and go on sale at Snapdeal.com beginning March 25.
There is no word on the price of the screen guards but they are said to be strong, durable and also feature special anti fingerprint coating. The screen protectors will be available at all major retailers.
