Asus has introduced its second Android Wear smartwatch in the form of the new ZenWatch 2. Unveiled at the Computex 2015 trade fair in Taipei, the smartwatch will be offered in two-sizes – 49mm (with a 22mm strap) and 45mm (with an 18mm strap).
In addition to the two sizes, Asus wants to give the consumers more customisation options, thus the ZenWatch 2 will come in three stainless-steel case colours (Silver, Gunmetal and Rose Gold), with 18 different strap materials and colour combinations for each size.
“ZenWatch 2 builds upon the original ZenWatch, offering an even more refined design, an improved user experience, and the introduction of completely new functionality. ZenWatch 2 now includes a metal watch crown, enhancing the user experience by a providing new way to interact with the watch,” wrote Asus in a press release. The crown is actually of little use and acts just as a power button right now.
Among other specifics, the smartwatch sports an AMOLED display with a gently curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection and is water-resistant with IP67 rating. ZenWatch 2 is powered by an unnamed Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and comes with a new magnetic charger for improved battery recharge times and no-frills attachment.
In terms of the software, the watch runs on the latest version of Android Wear and includes enhancements like Zen UI integration, FoneHelper, activity and fitness tracking, and remote camera.
Other details including pricing and availability are still unclear, but we hope to hear more from the company in the coming days.
