After Motorola revealed a few days ago that it doesn’t plan to update the Moto G4 Plus to Android 8.0 Oreo, the smartphone buyers were left frustrated. The company was going back on a promise that it made when it released the phone, but it seems Motorola has finally come to its senses and has announced that will provide the Oreo update for the Moto G4 Plus after all.
The company stated that it originally had no plans to update G4 Plus to Oreo and the promise in the promotional material was a miscommunication, but it recognises that a promise is a promise. Thus, the reversal in the company’s stance.
Motorola added that since the Moto G4 Plus Oreo update is unplanned, it might take longer to be released. So, if have a G4 Plus, don’t expect to see the update anytime soon.

Moto G4 Plus owners might be finally gettting some good news, the Moto G4 standard version buyers have nothing to cheer about. Motorola has no plans to update the phone and since there was no ‘error’ in the promotional material of Moto G4, the Lenovo-owned company can’t be ‘blamed’.
Here is Motorola’s official statement about this whole fiasco:
It’s been brought to our attention that there were some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for Moto G4 Plus. This was an oversight on our part and we apologize for this miscommunication. It’s our general practice for the Moto G family to get one major OS upgrade per device, but it’s important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading Moto G4 Plus to Android O. Because this is an unplanned upgrade, it will take some time to fit it into our upgrade schedule. Watch our software upgrade page for more information. (via)
