The Korean smartphone giant Samsung on Tuesday launched the Galaxy Note 8 smartphone in the Indian market. Part of the company’s much loved Note-lineup, the smartphone has already generated quite a buzz in the country. Reports suggest Samsung India had received Note 8 pre-registrations from 250,000 customers even before today’s launch event. However, given these consumers did not even know the pricing of the phone and have no obligation to actually go through the sale, these numbers don’t have much value.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 features
Originally unveiled last month in New York, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 features a giant 6.3-inch Infinity display with bare minimum bezels. The Indian variant of the phone is powered by the company’s own Exynos octa-core processor and packs 6GB of RAM.
Like all other Note-series devices, the Note 8 includes a S-Pen stylus, which the company says have been improved since the phone’s ill-fated last-generation. It has a finer tip, improved pressure sensitivity and enhanced software support.

One key feature that sets Note 8 apart from Samsung’s other high-end Galaxy smartphones is the dual rear camera setup. The company has embedded two 12-megapixel camera sensors on the back of the Note 8. One of these sensors includes a wide-angle f1.7 lens and the other has a telephoto f2.4 lens. This dual camera is supposed to help the consumers capture great images including creating the bokeh effect in the portrait mode. In addition, both the sensors support optical image stablisation.
On the software front, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will ship with Android 7.1.2 Nougat on-board, however the company has promised to provide Oreo update in the coming months.
Pricing and availability
According to Samsung, the Note 8 will go on sale beginning September 21 in the country. The phone carries a price-tag of Rs. 67,900. It is being offered in Gold and Black colours. The phone will be available via Amazon India as well as major offline stores. The pre-orders open on September 12.
Samsung India has revealed that the consumers who pre-order the phone will be eligible for one time screen replacement for just Rs 990 and a free wireless charger. In addition, the consumers purchasing the device using their HDFC credit card will get Rs. 4,000 as cashback. This is not all, the buyers will also get free data upto 448 GB from Jio.
